This Spring, and every other season, were mad for prints. Specially the highly coveted stand out, Fish print. Inspired by the poem, “Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod” the Fish print came to life from recycled materials. For this collection, David explored the places that his mind travelled as a child, even before he was able to reach them. It is those childhood memories that have stayed with him, that have made him believe that anything is possible if you can dream it. David always wanted more, a world with unlimited possibilities. His interest in genealogy started at an early age as he began to discover people who had created the stuff of his imagination. Poet Eugene Field, a distant cousin, became an inspiration to David as he dreamed of sailing away on his wooden shoe ship.

Our favorite Houston fashion columnist Lindley Arnoldy made one of our Fall pieces her own last month at the The Houston Symphony Ball, and into the hottest after-party of the year which she hosted, “Club Russe.” Lindley opted for the “Dubose”, a plum velvet with velvet dots gown from CrOp’s Fall 2013 Collection. We ask the fashionista why she was drawn to the Dubose, and how she styled it from accessories to beauty resulting in her overall glamourous look.

CrOp: What drew you to the Dubose gown?

LA: I have an obsession with velvet. It is such a luxe fabric – I love the way it shines. The fabric worked so well in this deep brown shade, and also fit so perfectly into a Russian themed ball! David is such a master at perfectly merging vintage and modern in his designs. I love that the gown had that old world look to it. It also happened to be the most comfortable gown I have ever worn.

CrOp: You are a patron of multiple local arts, what is your favorite aspect of the Houston symphony?

LA: My husband Jason and I are both very passionate about music, and felt that the symphony would be a great organization for us to support. I have loved being a part of the Young Associates Council, and have made some great friends as a result. Being a member of YAC, we have had the opportunity to hear some of the musicians play in private homes, which is really intimate and special. We are hosting an event for our group next weekend at the Arnoldy Farm – we are really looking forward to it.

CrOp: How did you style the gown?

LA: For an event like this, comfortable shoes are a must because I plan to dance - alot. I found a pair of gold platform Stuart Weitzman’s at Joseph in Highland Village and they have been my go-to for gowns lately, particularly because of their height. I love a really tall shoe for a long gown. The longer and leaner you can look, the better! I am typically very minimal when it comes to accessories. I wore a pair of teardrop diamond earrings and my gold serpant Bvlgari ring; it was the first piece of jewelry given to me by my husband. I carried my emerald green Charlotte Olympia Pandora box clutch for a little touch of color and trend.

CrOp: You looked stunning, your hair and make up were perfect with the gown. Did you do your own hair and makeup?

LA: Thank you!! I often wear my hair down because I just feel more like myself. I found a girl – Brittany – at Sensia who can do a great curl job. Melissa (a long time favorite) did my make up afterwards.

(Images per 1, 2)

We’ve kicked off Spring in high-contrast with our navy and white pieces. It was only a matter of time before our beauty regimen would catch on trend as well. This week, were rocking high-contrast on our digits via navy and white nails! With high appreciation of fellow fashion companies that manufacture in the US, our brand ambassador loves sporting our Spring pieces with a navy Clare Vivier fold-over clutch, the perfect accessory to a high contrast ensemble, and nails.

In our latest collection, and because Paris is always a good idea, we feature the city of love in our “Maps” print.

Like all of our prints, SS13′s Maps print is a noteworthy print designed by our creative director, David. For Spring, David explores the places that his mind travelled as a child, even before he was able to reach them. It is those childhood memories that have stayed with him, that have made him believe that anything is possible if you can dream it. The wonderful thing about these places of David’s dreams was that they became so real. Whether it was a mythical kingdom, or real town in a far away city, maps provided clues to navigate them. If a book had a map, David was there to study it. From reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame to Les Miserables understanding the city of Paris became his quest. When as an adult he arrived in the city for the first time, he felt immediately at home, even though he did not yet speak French. From his love of maps and literature, was born Spring 13′s ”Maps“, a print David designed using an aerial shot of Paris from the 1850′s.

In honor of our first SS13 print, “Maps” we take a romantic getaway to the city of love via pinterest: “Paris, We Love You.” Join us in pinteresting your favorite Parisienne food, culture, places, and spaces.

We celebrate our playsuit on the 11th day of CrOp’s Christmas with the precious trimmings of Purple Aura jewels! Snag CrOp’s Eunice romper for a discounted price and receive up to $100 to shop the quirky statement jewels! Purple Aura founders share with CrOp the inspiration, craft, and philosophy of their young jewelry line.

CrOp: What inspired you to design Purple Aura Jewels?

Natara: Cynthia and I are both true alpha females with a daring design perspective and sense of fashion. We both love designing jewelry and Cynthia has been making jewelry for years in her spare time. In 2010 we decided to merge our different yet complementary aesthetics with our love for jewelry to design jewelry that personifies the women we design for and ourselves: jewelry that is edgy, eclectic and bold with a distinctive look. This resulted in the creation of Purple Aura Jewels.

CrOp: What is your favorite part of designing, the craft or the result?

Cynthia: The end result is usually the best part. Designing the jewelry is fun and allows us to let our creative juices flow and experiment with different ideas and concepts. However, once I start to translate the designs on paper to actual samples, the pieces can sometimes transform themselves a bit. So it’s always interesting during the process as the designs come to life. We’re both amazed many times at how we love the end result even more than the initial design.

CrOp: What material do you craft jewelry out of?

We use semiprecious gemstones such as jade, amethyst, agate or lapis lazuli along with different chains and metals to create our jewelry.

CrOp: Do you have a favorite artist, jewelry designer, or creative mind that has inspired your work?

Natara: We don’t necessarily have a particular artist, designer or creative mind that inspires our work. We’re inspired more by a certain type of woman and to us, a Purple Aura woman is an unapologetic, risk taker who exudes charisma with a touch of elusiveness. She has downtown style that ranges from edgy femme to tomboy chic.

Cynthia: A Purple Aura woman is unique, authentic and one of a kind…just like our jewelry.

On CrOp’ 10th day of Christmas, we celebrate in pure elegance with Carmen Ibarra Jewelry. With the purchase of CrOp’s popular Caroline top, receive a $100 Sloan/Hall gift certificate towards Carmen Ibarra Jewelry. As we adorn CrOp’s twelve days of Christmas with Carmen Ibarra fine jewelry, we ask the cretor herself to take us into the craft and process…

CrOp: When did you begin your jewelry line?

Carmen Munoz: I studied jewelry design and goldsmithing in Florence, Italy. I began in1998 remodeling my mom’s friends jewelry; this help me to have the perception to annalyse their personality and create something they are going to love and is going to be unique.

CrOp: When you design, what is more important, the process or result?

CM: Both of them, if you don’t watch very close the process you will never have a successful result.

CrOp: For whom do you design? How do you see the Carmen Ibarra jewelry wearing lady?

CM: I design for “Today Woman”,I avoid any replica of antique or futuristic jewelry. My pieces even they have some past influence, always have the “Contemporary Touch”. My pieces are “Every day wear” you can pair them with jeans or a night gown. And are great for traveling! Curious fact – my oldest costumer is 90 years old and the youngest is 9!

CrOp: What is your philosophy (in life or designing)?

CM: Love what you do and do it with PASSION! As for my design philosophy, Keep the piece with clean lines and adding a “Surprise Element”.

CrOp: Where do you draw your inspiration?

CM: My inspiration comes mainly from arcuitecture and paintings. From Gothic (“Provence Collection”) to Surrealism (“Soul Collection and “Gaudi Collection”)

I always have an sketch book with me and I am always drawing for the next collection and clients.
